Bases for e-liquids

The base is the main component of an e-liquid, representing approximately 80 to 90% of its composition. It is composed of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) in varying proportions.

The PG and the VG

Propylene glycol is a colorless, odorless and flavorless liquid, which gives the e-liquid a hit sensation, that is to say a throat sensation. It is also responsible for the transmission of flavors.

Vegetable glycerin is a viscous, colorless and flavorless liquid, which gives the e-liquid significant vapor production. It is also responsible for the smoothness of the vapor.

PG/VG ratios

• The PG/VG ratio is expressed as a percentage and corresponds to the proportion of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin in the base.
• The 50/50 bases offer an excellent compromise between flavor and vapor production. They are suitable for most electronic cigarettes.
• Bases rich in PG (70/30 or 80/20) are more suitable for high-power electronic cigarettes, because they produce a greater hit.
• Bases rich in VG (70/30 or 80/20) are more suitable for low or medium power electronic cigarettes, because they produce a large quantity of vapor.
